It seems the Padres parents and volunteers never tire, with another huge few days of baseball for our juniors at the Gold Coast Classic.

A huge thank you to Gold Coast Baseball Association Inc and hosting clubs Surfers Paradise Baseball Club, Tallebudgeera and Coomera Cubs Baseball Clubfor such a wonderful three day tournament. In our Club’s first year of participating, we had an incredible 56 players and 10 coaches across seven teams!

Our Senior League team were worthy runners up, only losing one from six games to the winning New Zealand side. All of the players contributed in each of the games and responded well when challenged. Highlights were Enzo throwing a complete game in the win against Wests, Zac’s hitting through the whole weekend, Bailey catching in three with minimal experience before the tournament. Braith hit balls to the outfield and caused havoc on the bases while Liam showing leadership within the team and did whatever the team needed. Mitchell came up with key RBIs in a number of games to help us maintain scoreboard pressure. Maverick (being the joker in the team) kept the team morale up through the weekend, even with only one arm! Cooper playing 1st and the outfield, making all the plays that came his way. Eddie threw himself all over the field and was solid behind the dish while Hunter made the play of the weekend, throwing himself on the ground and then getting the out at 1st while seated! Jared (Mr Versatile) played multiple positions and showing a great ability at 1st that we didn’t know he had.

Thanks to Terry for his support over the weekend which made Mark’s job much easier in getting the team playing in a positive way. Finally to all of the parents - thanks you for your support; the boys are a credit to you and represented the Padres club with great pride. This was the first time the club has entered this tournament and through the efforts of this team we are sure that we will be back again to have another crack at the title on the GC!

Junior League pitching found late form on the last day to finish with a strong win. Many of our Little Leaguers experienced their first tournament, with both White and Red teams picking up a bronze and silver respectively in their competition pools. The White side highlights included a homerun from Troy Cassidy, a cracking triple from Eli Hardy, classy plays at short stop by Chase Prinkey, batting and baserunning combos by the Crotty brothers, impressive fielding at 2nd by Josh Bess, a clutch hit and catch by Brooklyn Prindable, a great catch in right by Judah Hensley and sturdy pitching for three days straight!

A huge thank you once again to our incredible coaches and volunteers for your valued contribution to our kids. It was great to see so many of our juniors involved in additional, tournament-style baseball! If you have photos, we will continue to share these on our Instagram over the coming days!
