Mathew Bates Named Div 2 Head Coach

We are thrilled to welcome back Matthew Bates to our esteemed Division 2 side, this year as head coach!

Batesy is in his sixth season at the club, also a veteran of Indians Baseball Club where his family were heavily involved as he made his way through the junior ranks. Volunteering from a young age, Batesy became president of Indians for three years from 2009 until the 2012/13 season. He then came to Redcliffe to join Phil Overlack as a starting pitcher for A-Grade (Division 1).

Batesy has a wealth of playing experience, including several stints in Queensland junior teams, one outing for the Queensland Claxton Shield team and a season on the mound with the Brisbane Bandits. He has been part of four grand finals with Indians, winning three. Although he was involved in two Division 1 grand finals at Padres without taking a premiership, Batesy was a part of the premiership-winning Division 2 side in the 2016-17 season.

Batesy also played four years of collegiate baseball in Illinois and Arkansas where he was drafted by the Florida Marlins as a freshman. He has coached at regional and collegiate level, been a part of the Queensland Baseball Academy programs over the years and has been heavily involved in University Baseball, representing QUT Baseball Club.

We are excited to have Batesy on board again this season as both a coach and a player!
